A Cadbury’s Top Decker alternative?

JpegQueuing in WhSmith I spotted this on their over-stuffed, bombarding queue barriers. Cadbury’s milk chocolate with white chocolate. Could this be it? Could taste just like that heavenly Top Decker bar that was so hard to get?

When I got home I eagerly opened it. It was a thin 100g bar. I bit into it. Sweet. Tasty. Where was it? Where was that white chocolately goodness mixing with Cadbury’s original choc?

Nothing. Just more sweetness.Tthere was no distinct white chocolate flavour and none of the indescribable Top Decker chocolate mix taste. It was just a much sweeter Cadbury’s milk chocolate bar with thinner pieces. 😦

I was gutted. Not worth £1.


Food Review: After Dark Gü-Zillionaires’puds.

JpegJpegI have tried Gü’s other cheesecakes in the past so was naturally eager to try this zillionaire one. This time it was on offer 1/3 off at Waitrose at £2. There was salted caramel, mascarpone and ganache. It was yummy but the most dissatisfying layer was the biscuit at the bottom. It was just crumbly biscuit as separated as dry sand rather than the damp sand texture expected of a cheesecake. This was unsatisfying to spoon into because it was all cream cheese and treacle with no crunchy base to boot. Sweet and yummy? Yes. Indulgent, satisfying and rich. No! The inconsistent crumbly biscuit layer denies you of that plunging creamy ‘n’ crunchy togetherness. The verdict: 4/10.

Food Review: Waitrose Cooks’ Recipe Kit: Udon Noodles.

JpegJpegThe ‘Kit’ was £4.49 and required an extra purchase of 300g of prawns. (Prawns were purchased per 150g pack at £3.32 each!) Below is what the contents of the recipe kit includes. JpegJpegA simple enough cooking method essentially adding at various intervals the sachet ingredients and separate prawns into a wok. So far so good. Please note upon adding the Dashi it is a very fishy smell.JpegA squid-like presentation in the little dish. The whole soya sauce sachet serving was too much as I poured the whole lot in. A very over-powering salty taste on the whole and fishy. It took 10 minutes cooking in all as per the  instructions and udon, mushrooms etc were cooked to perfection.

JpegAll in all worth a try but I would not be buying again as the taste was more salty than fragrantly asian as I had wished having tried this dish in a Japanese restaurant before. This gets a 1/10.

Chocolate Review: Cadbury’s Top Deck Dairy Milk.

JpegI had to travel all the way into Wales to buy this South African chocolate! The Cadbury’s Top Deck bar is 80gs of a delightful mix of Cadbury’s dairy milk chocolate with irresistible white chocolate. A heavenly mix!

Why South Africa you may be wandering? Well it appears this particular bar is produced by Mondelez in South Africa. Although when I was a child these bars were readily available in the UK-my local post office would sell it and I loved it back then. I don’t know what happened but all of sudden it was no where to be seen and it wasn’t until as an adult now I encountered it in the Delicatessen “Wally’s” in Cardiff.

It appears very hard to get but sooo worth it! I have not bought online via amazon though I may need to when I next get a craving for it.

Noticeably this particualr Cadbury’s bar lacks that melt in the mouth quality to UK produced chocolate. There is none of that horrid waxy and artifical texture and flavour of American chcolate like Hershey’s-yuck! Instead it is slower to melt yet creamy and less of that distinct Cadbury’s milk choclate flavour, it does not lean toward being too white chocolatey nor milk chocolate based instead a scrumptious sweetness  that you must indulge your tastebuds in. It is £2.25 per 80g at Wally’s Delicatessen in Cardiff.

I absolutely love Top Deck and always want more so 10/10!
